About De Portola

De Portola Middle School serves families in the Tierrasanta and Murphy Canyon neighborhoods. Campus is centered around a stage used for student activities during lunch.

Our diverse population represents several different ethnic backgrounds including Caucasian (47 percent) , Hispanic (30 percent), African American (9 percent) and Asian (9 percent).

De Portola's educational focus is to prepare students for continued success with rigorous secondary curriculum meeting California State Standards. We are proud to be designated a California Distinguished School and a Taking Center Stage School to Watch since 2006.

Our traditional calendar offers core subjects for all students. Students also take one elective in 7th and 8th grade, with additional electives available for students who can take zero period. The zero periods are held before school officially starts. It is popular with students seeking more challenging schedules and gives them the opportunities to explore a wider-range of educational offerings.

Our teachers are experienced in their subject areas, and all hold valid California teaching credentials. We strive to offer a curriculum that is student-centered, rigorous, standards-based and designed to meet the various learning needs of all students.

Parents and guardians are active participants at De Portola. The Foundation has raised over $75,000 during the last two years to help support the needs of the school.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer and provide daily assistance in a variety of ways. De Portola has an outstanding teaching staff. We have local, state and national award-winning teachers holding various honors. Come see De Portola in action.

For the last 12 years De Portola has been recognized as a National School to Watch. Please use the links on the left to dig deeper into why.
